Meet This Year's Mayors
|
 |

| Mayors from left to right: Kalsky Johnson, Andrew Gladney, Johnetta Fort, Lamar Taylor, Johneisha Fort, and Tytiana Allison | Mayors play a leadership role in the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement program. Younger students are divided into various city groups. Each city is led by a Mayor and they can pick the name of their city, such as Denver or Los Angeles.
These young leaders encourage students to focus on academic progress and they play an important leadership role with the volunteer tutors. Each volunteer tutor is assigned to a city and is accountable to the Mayor.
Key responsibilities of student Mayors: • Must attend the Nettie Bailey Student Achievement program three times each week; • Ensure students are completing homework assignments; • Track attendance and monitor behavior; • Meet with a Breakthrough staff member once a week to report on city activity; • Attend required workshops designed to teach and enrich.
The Mayors have been trained in peer mediation and are charged with helping the younger students resolve conflicts in a peaceful, responsible way.
